Smart Pomodoro – Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Smart Pomodoro is a browser extension that helps you track focus sessions, breaks, and study time using a Pomodoro-style timer and a simple analytics dashboard.

This page explains what data is collected, how it is used, and what choices you have. The extension is designed to collect only the minimum data required to provide focus tracking and statistics.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Account information (when you log in)

Scope: logged-in users only

When you choose to log in, the backend stores:

• Your name (for showing your profile in the dashboard and popup).
• Your email address (for identifying your account and admin features).
• A unique user ID from the authentication provider.

This information is used only to create and manage your Smart Pomodoro account and link your focus stats to you.

2.2 Focus and break sessions

Scope: logged-in users only

When a focus session finishes (or you stop it), the extension sends a record of that session to the backend:

• Session type (focus or break).
• Duration in seconds.
• Completion time and date (converted to your local date for daily stats).

These values are stored so that the daily/weekly/monthly charts can be calculated.

2.3 Daily statistics

Scope: logged-in users only

For each day, the backend maintains totals such as:

• Total focus time in seconds for that date.
• Aggregated values per week and per month.

These are derived from your sessions and are shown in the dashboard as hours per day.

2.4 Presence and activity pings

Scope: logged-in users only

While a focus session is running, the extension periodically sends lightweight “presence” pings to indicate that the session is still active (for streaks and reliability).

These pings do not contain page content. They are used only for uptime and streak calculations.

2.5 Browsing statistics during focus

Scope: logged-in users only, focus mode only

During focus sessions, the extension may send very limited browsing statistics to the backend:

• Domain name (for example, example.com).
• Approximate visit timestamp.

No page content, search queries, form data, or full URLs are collected. This information is used only to show simple stats about where you studied or got distracted.

2.6 Local extension settings

Scope: stored locally in your browser

The extension stores some preferences locally in your browser using Chrome storage:

• Timer mode and last chosen duration.
• Whether rain sound, ad-block, or website locks are enabled.
• Which sites or tabs should be locked or blurred during focus.

These settings do not leave your browser and are not sent to the backend. They are used only for the behavior of the extension itself.

3. How Your Data Is Used

3.1 Providing core features

Your data is used to:

• Track focus and break sessions and show totals.
• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly study charts in the dashboard.
• Show your current streak and recent activity.
• Apply locks/blur to sites during focus sessions if you enable those features.

3.2 No selling of personal data

Smart Pomodoro does not sell your personal data.

Data is only used to provide and improve the extension’s features and to keep your account and stats working correctly.

3.3 Service providers and hosting

The backend API and database are hosted with a cloud provider (for example, a platform like Render or a similar hosting service). Your data is processed and stored on those servers solely for Smart Pomodoro’s functionality.

4. Permissions Used by the Extension

The extension may request some browser permissions to provide its features. Typical permissions include:

• storage – to store your settings and your login token in the browser.
• tabs – to know which tab is active and to open the dashboard or login page.
• scripting – to inject overlay UI (timer, locks, blur) into the current tab.
• declarativeNetRequest – to enable built‑in ad blocking when you toggle it on.
• Limited host permissions – to run content scripts on the pages you visit and apply focus locks.

These permissions are not used to collect additional personal data beyond what is described in this policy.

5. Data Security & Retention

5.1 Security

Communication between the extension and the backend API uses HTTPS. Access to the backend is protected by authentication (JWT tokens) and server‑side checks.

5.2 Retention

Session data and daily statistics are kept as long as needed to provide historical charts and streaks. If you want your data to be removed, you can contact the developer and request deletion of your account and associated stats.

6. Your Choices and Control

• You can use the timer without logging in (no server-side stats will be saved).
• You can log out from the popup at any time to stop new data being sent to the backend.
• You can uninstall the extension from your browser at any time.
• You can request deletion of your stored data (see contact details below) and your sessions and stats will be removed from the backend.

7. Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time as features change or as platform policies (such as Chrome Web Store requirements) are updated. When that happens, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change.
